FitSteps® TONE combines the elegance and grace of the FitSteps® moves we know and love with toning and balance exercises.
FitSteps® TONE is a low impact toning workout designed to strengthen the whole body, with an emphasis on muscles used to support the hips, knees and ankles to aid balance.
Some TONE dances will be included in our regular FitSteps classes.
The addition of the resistance band provides an easy way to bring awareness to posture, as well as strengthen the muscles that support good posture. TONE tracks will help participants reconnect with the posterior chain (all the muscles down the backside of the body) and increase the endurance for holding a dancer’s frame for traditional FitSteps dances. Improved posture will help decrease discomfort in the upper body and help the overall quality of life.
Slowing down dances and emphasizing lower body exercises such as squats, lunges, and curtsy lunges will effectively condition the lower body. Participants can focus on technique, correct muscle recruitment, and range of motion. Movement quality will be enhanced and thus improve ADLs (activities of daily living).
Rotation and single-leg movements will challenge participants’ balance. TONE tracks will also provide ample opportunity to focus on the linking of one movement to another which will also improve balance. Improved balance is an important component of safety in day-to-day life.
OPPORTUNITY FOR MINDFULNESS
TONE tracks are designed for mindfulness. A slower pace and less choreography provides space for participants to connect their mind to their muscles, as well as their mind to their movements. TONE track’s intentional simplicity should help participants master technique which will translate to other aspects of the FitSteps experience and outside of the studio.
